Synopsis by Sean Hurley

In the six-part Climate and Man series, the producers of Films for the Humanities and Sciences deliver an in-depth exploration of the critical relationship existing between Earth's climate and the success or failure of every species existing on this planet. In Modifying the Weather: The Case of the Man-Made Desert, experts explore the disastrous decision of Soviet Russia to irrigate the desert of Central Asia leading to the drying-up of what was once the fourth largest lake, the Aral Sea. Also examined are the policies of water usage in the American southwest where the future seems to have fallen victim to the expediency of the moment. Another interesting exploration of this program involves the tangible effects of human activity -- including building roads, livestock grazing, even watering crops -- on global climate changes.
