This series takes place 30 years after the events of the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 movie and therefore 60 years after the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. The conflict between the Earth Federation and Zeon forces is long over, and now Earth is under even greater threat by the Zanzcare Empire. The planet's last hope lies in the mass-produced Victory Gundam. The series follows one young Victory Gundam pilot, 13-year-old Uso Evin, though despite the main character's youth, this series is decidedly less lighthearted than the previous two Gundam TV series, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. Mobile Suit Victory Gundam is thought by many to be a return to the darker style of the original Mobile Suit Gundam.
