Consuela Cosmetic spent most of his life trying to become a woman. He took hormones, wore make-up and feminine clothing and even had breast implants. But there was an appendage he refused to part with, and so forged a career as a living anomaly, half-man/half-woman. This documentary offers insight into the life of Consuela and other transsexuals in the attempt to clear up many misconceptions about them. In discussing his life and his career working as a nightclub act and hustler, Consuela, who died of AIDS while this film was in post-production, discusses the effects of the disease not only on the body, but on the spirit of himself and others like him.
