Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Per its title, this ABC documentary series cast its spotlight upon real-life medical miracles, in the manner of PBS' long-running The Body Human. Although there were no stars per se, most of the episodes were introduced and narrated by cardiac surgeon Redmond Burke and cardiovascular specialist Billy Cohn, the latter responsible for several revolutionary inventions that enabled his colleagues to perform acts of medical brilliance that had hitherto been dismissed as impossible. Each episode focused on two patients facing radical surgery, chronicling their backgrounds and their day-to-day trials and tribulations. The episode then moved on to the necessary surgical procedures, then detailed the post-op aftermath. Although most stories had a happy ending, there were also a number of tragic denouements, though in general the failures were outweighed by the successes. In an effort to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, the producers cannily chose a couple of extremely attractive professional nurses, UCLA Medical Center's Janna Bullock and McLennan Community Recovery's Tamara Houston, to assist in each surgery. The weekly, hour-long Miracle Workers debuted March 7, 2006.
