Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Justin Carew, an unsuccessful author (Harry Mestayer), leaves his wife, Valerie (Grace Darmond) , because she refuses to give up her acting career. He gets a job as secretary to Philo Ocumpaugh (Frederick Hand), and the two men head West to look over some mining interests. While her husband is away, Mrs. Ocumpaugh desperately looks for a baby because she is convinced that her husband will desert her if she does not become a mother. The unscrupulous Dr. Poole (John Charles) offers to find her one -- for a fee, of course. Valerie has just given birth, and the doctor convinces her to give it up. The Ocumpaughs are overjoyed at their new arrival, and as the years pass the little girl, Gwendolyn (Charlotte Stevens) also becomes very fond of Carew. Valerie eventually inherits a fortune and retires. She tracks down Dr. Poole and demands her child back, so the doctor uses this as an opportunity to blackmail Mrs. Ocumpaugh. Gwendolyn mysteriously disappears and just about everybody is a suspect until Mrs. Ocumpaugh reveals that she has hidden the girl for fear that she would be stolen. The truth about Gwendolyn's birth finally comes out. Ocumpaugh forgives his wife's deception, and although Carew and Valerie reconcile, they allow Gwendolyn to remain with her foster parents.
