New Zealand filmmaker Peter Wells' documentary about Auckland movie palaces blends fact and fantasy to allow audiences a glimpse into the history and lore surrounding such establishments as the famed Xanadu theatre. Covering the two decades between WWI and WWII, the film includes interviews with ex-showgirls and an account of the meetings that took place between American servicemen and Kiwi women on the roof of another celebrated palace, the Civic.
