Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This Vitagraph drama starred minor silent star Gladys Leslie. Jeanne Sterling (Leslie), a simple country girl, visits New York for the first time, only to discover that her friends have left for the seashore. At a loss for something to do before taking the train home, she meets Forrest Chenoweth (Gladden James), a rich young man who takes a liking to her. Before long, he proposes to her, and she accepts. An alderman friend of Chenoweth's marries them, but the couple forgets to pick up the marriage certificate. This causes a lot of trouble later, when Chenoweth dies accidentally. Another woman has had her name entered on the marriage certificate and she tries to take possession of the estate. Although the alderman's son is involved in the plot to steal Jeanne's estate, the alderman reveals her true status as Chenoweth's widow. Not only does Jeanne retain the estate, she also wins the heart of Robert Pitcairn (James Morrison).
