Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As co-directed by Thai directors Somkiat Vithuranich and Pantham Thongsang, the family-friendly, Thai-language animal picture Mid Road Gang concerns a scruffy mutt of a dog named Makham, the leader of the pack for a motley group of down-and-out canines whose names are Piak, Pikul, Sexy, Keng and Uncle Kafe. These dogs all hit rock bottom when they learn that the slum where they reside will soon be razed, and a supermarket installed in its place. Makham, however, learns of a doggie paradise, called 'Dogtopia,' where every dog has a warm, comfy bed and everything he could ever want to eat. The only problem is that this Valhalla lies on the other side of a multi-lane freeway - a freeway that the dogs must cross, treacherously, under Makham's leadership, if they have any hope of reaching ultimate bliss. Though the film represents a live-action effort, Thongsang and Vithuranich carefully skirted around the option of CG-animated mouths, instead merely coupling voiceovers with animal expressions to achieve their desired character effects.
