Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is a study in memorization techniques for pianists. Students and professionals alike may have difficulty memorizing music, or fear that they will lose their memory during a performance. This video demonstrates five memorization processes and techniques for remembering music. It includes suggestions for incorporating these techniques into the teaching process. The program helps the student learn the basics of a visualization practice, wherein, prior to the recital, the practitioner keeps a clear, detailed mental picture of the musical piece. Also, the visualization practice of seeing oneself having successfully completed the memorization task is stressed. Studies have proven that mental preparation techniques such as these enhance performance.
