Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
Opera directors Arrigo Boito provides his take on Goethe's celebrated Faust legend in this 1989 production of Mefistofele. Under Boito's direction, the story, despite taking several imaginative lyrical and orchestral liberties, remains largely faithful to the original concept. Dancer Samuel Ramey is featured in the title role, and is supported by the chorus and orchestra of the San Francisco Opera.
