Synopsis by Mark Deming
Osama Bin Laden became the world's most notorious terrorist leader after he and his operatives staged the bloody attacks on New York City's World Trade Center and Washington D.C.'s Pentagon on September 11, 2001. But few in the West know much about the man beyond the fuzzy videotapes his organization occasionally distributes to the press. Filmmaker Zvi Dor-Ner attempts to paint a portrait of the man behind the deadly image in Meeting Osama Bin Laden, a documentary in which people who have actually known the man share their stories about him. Interview subjects include Brian Fyfield-Shayler, a teacher who had Bin Laden as a student; Essam Deraz, who fought in Afghanistan alongside the future terrorist; and Robert Fisk, a journalist who has interviewed him at length.
