Synopsis by Janiss Garza

In this tale of the South in the mid-1800s, Annabel Lee (serial star Pearl White) and Warner Richmond (Hal Ford) get married, but they keep the wedding a secret so that Warner can inherit the fortune of his misogynist grandfather (Fuller Mellish). But after the grandfather's death, Warner dumps Annabel for an opera singer. Warner destroys the evidence of his first marriage so he can wed the singer, who then takes his money and leaves him. Meanwhile, Annabel has married a doctor who was her childhood sweetheart. Warner becomes a drunkard and in a delirium returns to his old home When Annabel's husband tends to Warner, he discloses his marriage to her. Annabel finds her secret has been revealed and she attempts suicide, but she's stopped by the doctor. Warner, in his alcoholic rantings, knocks over a lamp which catches fire and burns him to death, saving Annabel's name, reputation and marriage. This picture was sent to France for hand tinting, and there was great attention given to period detail -- all this for a plot that was standard melodramatic fare!
