Synopsis
In Part 3 of four, Lakota Native Americans on South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation and native Hawaiians air their grievances. Both claim that their cultures are under siege. "I don't know our language," laments Nate Bordeaux, a Lakota (in English), while Hula teacher Victoria Holt Takamine complains of a "cultural genocide against the Hawaiian people." In both places, governmental preferences to natives, many of whom are poor, are being challenged by whites who say that such preferences are race-based and thus unconstitional. "They want our land," sniffs a Native American, while Takamine says: "It's not about being racist, it's about being Hawaiian."
