Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Valentines' Day means many things to many people: promiscuous Kelly Bundy (Christina Applegate) is swamped with Valentine cards, her nerdish brother Bud (David Faustino) is anxiously awaiting his first-ever card, and next-door neighbor Marcy Rhodes (Amanda Bearse) receives a trip to Hawaii from hubby Steve (David Garrison) as a first-anniversary gift. Meanwhile, Peg Bundy (Katey Sagal) wants only one, very simple Valentine's present: the words "I love you" from her boorish husband Al (Ed O'Neill). This is the famous "interactive" episode, in which viewers were invited to call in their votes as to whether or not Al should say, "I love you, Peg" or "Not tonight, Peg" (two 900 phone numbers were given out, with viewers paying 50 cents per call, the proceeds going to the American Heart Association). As originally telecast, the results of the voting were not revealed until one hour after Married... With Children signed off, during a telecast of another Fox sitcom, Duet -- and contrary to popular belief, only one version of the episode's finale was taped, rather than two alternates.
