Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The British children's game show Wide Awake Club was an outgrowth of the daily ITC offering Wac-a-Day. On each episode, two pairs of kids were invited to compete in a question-and-answer session, in which they tried to "psych out" one another. Whenever a kid was disqualified, he or she was bashed over the head by a harmless rubber mallet. When comedian Timmy Mallett joined the series, its title was (perhaps inevitably) changed to Mallett's Mallet, incorporating a satirical talent contest in the proceedings. By any name, the series was seen in the early-morning hours from October 1, 1984 until mid-1989.
