Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Mahiru No Ankoku was released stateside as both Darkness at Midnight and Darkness at Noon. It isn't that the English translators couldn't make up their minds; it is just that the original Japanese title is symbolic rather than chronologically correct. When an elderly couple is murdered, the police pick up the most likely suspect, a young loner. The authorities force a confession out of the suspect, who then insists that he had a pair of accomplices. All three are rushed through the legal process, and all three receive guilty verdicts. Only after the dust has settled do the police -- and the public -- realize that a horrible miscarriage of justice has occurred.
