Montague Emerson (Antonio Moreno), a society editor, heads out West with his reluctant friend, a cartoonist named Gill (Otto Lederer), to start a weekly paper. They decide to clean up the town and support a group of reformers, much to the chagrin of powerful dance-hall owner Boss Roth. To make matters worse, Roth's daughter Jess (Mary Anderson) and Emerson fall in love. As election day draws near, Roth raids Emerson's cabin where he prints his paper and burns it down. But a band of Mexicans, led by the nefarious Marillo (Leon Kent), invade the town and kidnap Jess. Emerson follows in pursuit and rescues her. When he brings her back to her father, she tells him to choose between her and his dance halls. Of course he chooses his daughter and comes over to Emerson's side.
