Synopsis by Erin Demers
This period film by Director Sophie Barthes is the latest adaptation of French writer Gustave Flaubert's 1856 debut novel about a woman teetering on the edge of disaster as she carries on illicit affairs in an attempt to suspend the boredom of an Ill-conceived marriage. Emma Rouault (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself disillusioned with her bourgeois existence as a provincial doctor's wife after her romantic notions of love begin to fall away with the realization that her husband is a dullard. Becoming entangled in a series of affairs, Emma will be forced to pay a price for the choices she's made. Also starring Ezra Miller, Paul Giamatti, Rhys Ifans and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.
