Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Laplanders interact with Finns in this Finnish movie. Providing a rare glimpse into the communal life of these tribal people, it tells the story of a Finnish girl who falls in love with a Lap man and bears his child. Her father won't hear of her marrying him and chases the man away over a frozen lake. When the man falls through, no one but the guilt-stricken father calls it murder. He is unable to endure the protests of his conscience and finally commits suicide. Highlights of the film include scenes of communal singing, religious ceremonies, and other tribal activities among the Laps.
