Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Less than two reels into Love's Toll, heroine Marian Lane (Rosetta Brice) joins the ranks of those simple-minded country girls who are lured to the Big City by seductive cads, only to be dumped when they find themselves a wee bit pregnant. After the death of her baby, Marian's despondency is dispersed when she marries her obstetrician, Dr. George Page (Richard Buhler). The doctor assumes that Marian is a widow, and she says nothing that might disillusion him. But when it turns out that Allen Craven (Crauford Kent), the no-good reprobate who impregnated Marian, is a good friend of Dr. Page, the horrible truth is revealed. Page and Craven duke it out, whereupon the villain's gun accidentally discharges, killing him on the spot. Grateful that Page would fight for her honor, Marian tells the police that Craven committed suicide.
