In late 1969, the Rolling Stones decided to end their American concert tour with a free concert in San Francisco, which after much legal wrangling ended up taking place at the Altamont Speedway. Rather than hire security guards, the Rolling Stones and their team persuaded members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle club to guard the stage in exchange for $500 worth of beer. The concert became a disaster, and a young man named Meredith Hunter was killed by Hell's Angels near the stage during the Stones' performance. Hunter's death was caught on film and became part of the acclaimed documentary Gimme Shelter, and Altamont became a potent symbol of the end of the idealism of the Sixties. But what became of Meredith Hunter? Who was this young man whose death held such symbolic value? Lot 63, Grave C is a short documentary by Sam Green which attempts to uncover the enigma of Meredith Hunter, and includes a visit to the unmarked grave where Hunter's remains are buried. Lot 63, Grave C was screened in competition at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
