Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video is part of the Lost Treasures of the Ancient World series that investigates ancient civilizations of the world. In Lost Treasures of the Ancient World: The Dark Ages, the period known as the Dark Ages is examined. The Dark Ages had their genesis in Europe in the religious excesses of the Crusades and the Inquisition. The accumulated learning of centuries was lost, as books were burned and artists, healers, scientists, and other thinkers were killed. Only the Celtic priests kept the arts of writing and history alive. The video shows that knowledge took new forms of expression in the hills and valleys of Europe.
