Synopsis by Alice Day
Four major ocean liners have been lost, including the Titanic, the Britannic (the younger sister of the Titanic), the Empress of Ireland, and the Lusitania. The PBS film Lost Liners tells the stories of these fabled ships, utilizing archived photos from long ago and new underwater film previously unseen by the public. Commentary is provided by historians, who discuss the adventures and shipping competitions of the past, while survivors of the tragedies speak of losses suffered. The ships are symbolic of a time of extreme luxury and excessive spending.
