Synopsis by Sandra Brennan

In this Japanese melodrama, based on a novel by Yukio Mishima, a young widow finds herself constantly warding off the unwelcome advances of her father-in-law. It makes her most uncomfortable as she lives upon his estate and has daily contact with his wife and second son. The lonely widow turns to the estate gardeners for solace. Soon her infatuation with him becomes obsession; when she learns that he has impregnated another servant, the enraged widow forces her to get rid of the child. The half-insane widow then takes the gardener into the greenhouse and tells him that the baby is dead. Just then, her jealous father-in-law appears wielding a gun. The gardener is only too happy to die. The widow obliges him and then the two bury him. After that, the widow flees.
