Synopsis
"A Working Team" (Part 3) focuses on one newcomer to WCNC, and two veterans of the NBC affiliate's newsroom. Newcomer Mike Redding is known for his "people" stories, but is covering hurricanes. He's good at it---and WCNC's ratings reflect it---but he wants to do more. So does education reporter Sterlin Benson Webber, whose role is reduced on a major school-busing story because station manager Keith Connors wants "team coverage." And anchor Alicia Booth is actually demoted to reporter because viewer research suggests she doesn't appeal to women. Perhaps, says Redding, "she's too pretty."
