Throughout history, dwarves have been subject to misunderstanding, superstition, condescension, and cruel humor. Produced, directed, and edited by Jan Krawitz and Thomas Ott, this Emmy award-nominated documentary chronicles an annual national convention of the organization Little People of America, profiling and interviewing a number of the participating members and their families. One interview involves a dwarf couple with their average-sized child. The program also touches on issues of discrimination, both intentional and otherwise. Some dwarves have painful health conditions and these are discussed. At the convention, a dwarf child meets other dwarves for the first time. Critically acclaimed in the New York Times and Christian Science Monitor for its unsentimental yet intelligent, compassionate, and good-humored vision, Little People has been telecast on PBS, The Discovery Channel, and The Learning Channel. The program utilizes 16 mm cinematography by Thomas Ott and sound recording by Jan Krawitz. It is available in a 58-minute version and an 88-minute version.
