The surrealistic and highly eccentric band Little Feat grew out of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, and espoused a unique combination of southern blues, rock, country, and R&B. The group experienced several incarnations following its genesis circa 1969. Mothers members Roy Estrada and Lowell George founded the band, but Kenny Gradney replaced Estrada, George died of a heart attack in the late '70s (only to be replaced by additional members at later stages) and the band constantly battled the obstacle, throughout the '70s, of issuing albums that were critically acclaimed but commercial disappointments. Following some extended time out in the early '80s, the group reformed in 1988. Drawing on a rabid cult following, Little Feat instantly became a smash on the revival circuit, headlining many sell-out concerts. The home video release Little Feat: Little Feat and Friends in Jamaicais a loosely strung together, 70-minute documentary of the band throwing its annual Feat Fan Excursion in Negril, Jamaica, replete with wall-to-wall music, onscreen feasts, avid fans, and luscious South Pacific scenery.
