Liners: Ships of Destiny, Episode 1 - Maiden Voyage is part one of the four-volume Liners: Ships of Destiny series and focuses on the disastrous and often tragic consequences of accidents and catastrophes of the great ocean liners of the early 20th century. The tape starts off with a look at the earliest stream-powered ships and the formation of cruise lines P & O and Cunard. Once the cruise line companies were formed, passenger ships began their voyages and then the mishaps began occurring. This video takes a look at the tragedies of the Titanic disaster and the sinking of the Lusitania. Historians talk about the impact of Germany's challenging of the British liner domination and the maritime events that led up to World War II.
