A routine film about how difficult it can be to finally grow up, this story revolves around the emotional ups and downs of Jacob (Torval Maurstad) who comes back home after spending years at sea -- symbolically and otherwise. Jacob falls in love with Line (Margarethe Robsahm), but not even this positive relationship can erase his hatred for his now-ailing father. The man tormented both him and his mother, driving her into a mental breakdown. Jacob has written the novel the world is waiting for, and so when his usual turmoil over his past with his father is exacerbated by a rejection from the publisher, his reaction is off the scale -- taking him to the brink of disaster.
