In this series of programs, students in grades five through twelve are introduced to the concepts underlying space travel. Many of the ideas presented are complex, but the explanations offered by space shuttle crew members and scientists are designed to be easily understood. Students will have an opportunity to work on observation, prediction, model-making, computation, and problem-solving skills in this episode, Liftoff to Learning: Tethered Satellites. Details of tethered satellites are given, showing how they are deployed and what forces affect their actions.
