Synopsis by Alice Day
Using footage filmed during the STS-59 mission, students can embark on a stimulating trip around the planet in Liftoff to Learning: Geography From Space. The breathtaking photography covers every continent of the Earth except the Arctic and Antarctic, enabling viewers to see much more than what is visible from an airplane. Scientists use the films to study the changing geography of the Earth, and the effects of biological and climatological changes on the surface of the planet. During this mission, astronauts were able to see past cloud cover providing an unobstructed view of Earth's features.
