Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
The stevedores of the port of Genoa are a disappearing breed. This documentary explores their plight. For many decades the dock workers and their self-managed union were a powerful force in the sea-side city, but with the encroachment of technology and changes in industry, their number has been slashed 90% over the years. Also making matters worse is the new highway that has isolated the docks from the rest of the city, creating an area of slums and poverty.
