This documentary special - which originally aired on television in late 1993 - explores the life and stunning career of composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) of West Side Story and On the Town fame, widely regarded as one of the gods of 20th century popular music. In charting Bernstein's life story, the program features rare archival interview clips, extracts from Bernstein's multi-award winning Concerts for Children series, seldom-seen clips from a 1959 Bernstein concert with the New York Philharmonic in Moscow, and more.
