Synopsis by Nathan Southern
As a member of the impressionist school of classical music -- which followed 19th century impressionist painting -- Claude Debussy authored a series of orchestral works that seemed designed to conjure up visual worlds of sound. In this concert film -- an homage to Debussy -- maestro Leonard Bernstein conducts the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in performances of several such works by Debussy. The selections include Images, Prélude à l'Après-Midi d'un Faune, and La Mer.
