Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The English-born cabaret diva-cum-songwriter-cum-BBC television emcee Lena Martell developed a reputation and a loyal following for her interpretation of country tunes in the seventies. She debuted in 1979 with the triumphant EP Lena's Music Album, and that album's top single - Martell's take on Kris Kristofferson's "One Day at a Time" - made sales history. Martell released an array of successful follow-ups from one end of the ensuing decade to the other, retiring in the early 1990s. In the home video issue Lena Martell: Songs from a Woman's Heart, Martell performs both originals and covers live, during a boatride from The Forth to The Clyde. Numbers include: "One Day at a Time," "Carrickfergus," "An Old-Fashioned Christmas," "Songbird," "The Promise," "Plaisir d'Amour," "You Were Always on my Mind", "These Are My Mountains" and more.
