In the same year as his flamboyant Exorcismo, Iberian filmmaker Juan Bosch directed this Italian-Spanish co-production, a giallo thriller based on Luisa Maria Linares's novel Juan a las Ocho, Pablo a las Diez. The film begins with the razor-murder of a man in a bathroom stall at Heathrow Airport. Gillian Hills of Blow-Up stars as Peggy Foster, who is seriously worried about her missing boyfriend, a photographer named Michael who has been on assignment in Vietnam for several months. To help raise rent money, she sublets her apartment to a man who wears dark glasses inside and behaves in a most peculiar fashion. After receiving a call from Michael, Peggy goes to a deserted airstrip and is shot at by an assassin, returning home only to find that her new tenant appears to have committed suicide by leaping off her balcony. Things get even more peculiar when another stranger shows up with the same name as the dead tenant, and a mysterious killer murders the secretary of Peggy's publisher. Before long, there are so many false clues and baffling murders (by sickle, razor, and even bass string) that the actual solution to the mystery is far less satisfying than the various jaw-dropping twists which Bosch throws at the viewer. Silvia Solar, Orchidea de Santis, and Bruno Corazzari are among the familiar faces on hand for genre enthusiasts.
