Synopsis by Alice Day

When early settlers experienced the scenic vistas of the Rocky Mountain high country, they began to comprehend a need for the preservation of natural resources. The search for gold and silver fueled the migration of pioneers to this region, and their explorations are covered in Land of the Eagle Vol. 5: "Into the Shining Mountains". The native Americans who lived in the area, including the Shoshone, the Blackfeet, and the Utes, regarded the land as sacred, and their habits demonstrated an ability to live in harmony with nature. The remarkable natural wonders inspired the establishment of Yellowstone National Park.
