Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

This documentary on Argentine political history between the military coups of 1930 and 1976 features newsreels and old photographs, and combines historical people and events in such a way that simplifies a complex story. That approach will do well for those unfamiliar with Argentina, as the tale moves from the first "marriage" of cattle barons and the military in 1930 to the last marriage of Juan Perón, which gave his widow Isabelita the ability to run for the presidency and gain that position of power -- at least for awhile. For Argentines about to go to the polls and vote for the first time in 10 years, this 1983 film was probably too simplified to clarify the positions and backgrounds of the candidates.
