Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although Jacques de Baroncelli was the director of this French-made melodrama, it was "filmed under the supervision" of its star, Fannie Ward. It turned out to be one of the actress' last films before she decided to retire. Richard Olcott (Howard Stanton) is a wealthy ship owner who is a gambling addict. His passion for cards finally breaks him, and when he loses to Jules Surret while on a sea voyage, he writes him a worthless check. Olcott goes to Surret's cabin to retrieve the check, taking a pistol along, but his daughter, Ellen (Ward), stops him. When she goes to find the pistol, which her father had dropped, Surret sees her and believes that she intended to kill him. Olcott kills himself, leaving a note insisting that Ellen keep the circumstances a secret. Surret goes to Ellen's fiancé, Jack Baldwin (Rex McDougal), and tells him she is no good. Ellen pleads with Surret and for her efforts, he tries to force himself on her. They struggle and he hits his head on a statue. After he recovers from his injury, he becomes convinced that Ellen is innocent and discovers the truth when he finds her looking at her father's note. Ellen and Baldwin are reconciled.
