Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

A traditional song provides the title for this Dutch documentary, directed by Sonia Herman Dolz, about a Cuban musical quintet, La Vieja Trova Santiaguera (aka The Old Troubadours). With an age range of 62 to 84, all five members of the group are grandfathers or great-grandfathers, and all five have extensive musical backgrounds -- although the group was formed only five years ago. TV documentarian Dolz previously made a feature about bullfighting, Romance di Valentia (Only the Brave), but in this outing, she intercuts concert and rehearsal footage with the lives of the five musicians, who are seen at home, checking out rising young talents, or recalling times past. Shown at the 1998 San Francisco Film Festival.
