Synopsis by Tom Ciampoli

Knifed Up: The Evolution of Plastic Surgery examines the idea of the idealized female form amongst African-Americans, and what black women will do to achieve that look. From the ample posterior work that popular public figures like Nikki Minaj boast, to breast enhancement and face lifts, the film analyzes the lengths that women go to possess the model image that they desire, including liposuction, facial work and more, as well as the health risks that these procedures bring about. As more female celebrities speak out proudly about the "work" they've had, and the various ways in which they've had their own bodies altered, this cultural documentary asks whether or not the desired effects outweigh the potentially damaging longterm consequences, and whether the model image these patients are searching for is even attainable.
