In this amusing story, the "applause-getter" is a producer who manages to pack the house for a show featuring a senile former star by covertly letting the public know that the old woman may actually die on stage in her next performance. His ploy sells out every show, but the aged actress believes people are simply coming to see her on stage. Mixed in with this storyline are entertaining backstage segments in which the producer has to fend off critics and competitors alike, and in the end, even he could not predict the outcome of his subterfuge.
