Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Dance enthusiasts regard the Kirov Ballet as one of the most exciting companies of its kind in the world. The Kirov also claims a peerlessly rich and full history: it lifted such performers as Nijinsky and Pavlova into the international spotlight, witnessed Agrippina Vaganova's development of the now-iconic "Soviet style" of ballet technique, and served as the original home of many of the Petpalvanov classics. This dance film was shot at the Kirov Ballet and pays homage to it, by bringing together many of its major stars on stage, who perform highlights from some of the best-known Kirov dances, including "Diana and Actheon," "Flower Festival in Genzano," "The Canteen Keeper [Viviandere]," "Esmeralda," "The Venice Carnival" and "Pas de Quatre."
