Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Previously adapted for British television in 1952 and 1956, Robert Louis Stevenson's historical adventure novel Kidnapped was given a third go-round by the BBC from October 13 to December 29, 1963. Unlike the two previous versions, each of which ran for six half-hour episodes, this adaptation was doled out in 12 25-minute installments. Joy Harrington was the scrivener assigned to telescope the action of the Stevenson original into the allotted running time. Though research has not revealed who played protagonist David Balfour, it is known that the part of Alan Breck, David's protector and staunch proponent of Scottish independence from British rule, was played by Ian Cullen.
