Synopsis by Cara Saposnik

Made by the Kibbutz Movement itself, this is a highly critical look at the state of kibbutzim now. Started over 100 years ago, the ideal of the kibbutz was to be a collective living and working place where true socialism could flourish. Idealistic European Jews came to build a homeland with the hope of creating more than just a place to live. They dreamed of an egalitarian utopian society and saw the kibbutz as the cornerstone of this ideal. Fifty years after Israel became a nation, that ideal has vastly changed. Kibbutz 2000 examines the evolution of the kibbutz and how it must adapt to a rapidly changing society.
