This Japanese slice-of-life drama examines the life of a single woman in her thirties. Noriko, a translator, has just moved back into her parents suburban home after dumping her boyfriend. Because she is considered old by Japanese standards, her parents want to find her a good husband. But Noriko would rather work and sing in the little jazz group she formed with a friend. On the way home one night her friend, a teacher, stops by the home of a student who does not show up for class. Noriko becomes interested in the 15-year old Takato's tragic situation. Abandoned by his single mother, he lives off stolen food. Noriko begins to take care of him by providing food and money. She then moves in. The two soon fall into a confusing sexual relationship.
