Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This is a comprehensive documentary film of the second German Empire (1871-1918), with particular focus on the government under Otto von Bismark, social democrat August Bebel, and World War I. The great contrast between the lives of the aristocracy and the abject misery of the poor is investigated, and there is a great deal of rare early movie footage of Berlin. Also included are never before seen movies of the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games.
