Synopsis by Robert Firsching

Kimiyoshi Yasuda directed this loose remake of Nobuo Nakagawa's classic 1957 film of the same title, released in the U.S. as Ghost Story of Kasane Swamp. The story deals with the daughter of a blind masseuse, who becomes a spiteful harridan when her face is hideously burned because of her father's sins. The Kasane Swamp legend -- first brought to the screen by Kenji Mizoguchi in Kyoren No Onna Shisho (1926) -- revolves around the sins of a father cursing his descendants, and it gets a modern boost from additional sex and violence in the screenplay by Shozaburo Asai. Unfortunately, this film was made under rather hurried conditions, as Daiei studios was in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings at the time, and the production suffers from inconsistencies and a very rushed, almost unfinished look. Ritsu Ishiyama, Saburo Date, Maya Kitajima, Reiko Kasahara, and Matsuko Oka are among the cast.
