This French documentary puts a compelling face on the Palestinian/Israeli controversies by allowing the older inhabitants of one village in occupied Palestine to tell their life stories. One older Arab woman recalls that as a teenager (before the founding of the Israeli state) she had Jewish friends, and the Hebrew word for brotherhood was frequently on their lips. Another recounts how he lost his job because he could not manage to show the military authorities sufficient respect. A doctor tells how gratitude for his emergency intervention in saving the life of an Israeli turns to revulsion when the man discovers he is an Arab. Given the tight control exerted by Israeli censors over all press activities, especially those in the occupied areas, one suspects this footage was smuggled out of the counry and that those involved must have lost their press credentials in Israel.
