Synopsis by Janiss Garza

When Bill Hawes (Monte Blue) comes to teach at the only school in Purdy County, South Carolina, he stays with the Jucklins -- father Lim (Charles Ogle), mother Susan (Fannie Midgely), daughter Guinea (Mabel Julienne Scott) and son Alf (Zell Covington). Guinea has been promised to Chyd Lundsford (J.M. Dumont), but she falls in love with Bill. Alf, meanwhile, is in love with Millie Lundsford (Ruth Renick), who is promised to Dan Stuart (William Boyd). Dan dies during a quarrel with Alf, who is accused of his murder. Bill helps Alf out by proving that Dan died of heart failure, so Alf is free to be with Millie. Bill, meanwhile, winds up with Guinea. This picture was based on the novel by Opie Read.
